*Description of the position:*
Over the last two decades, we see new ways of funding and programming of
research and knowledge production. Large scale research programmes are
set up, characterized by collaboration between academia, industry and
societal actors. These programmes aim to develop knowledge which
contributes to economic development or societal problem solving. In
close cooperation with a team of senior and junior researchers, you will
conduct research into the dynamics and effects of such large-scale
multi-actor research programmes. There will be a focus on programs in
the field of both climate adaptation and water research. The research is
carried out in cooperation with KWR Watercycle Research Institute, Delft
University of Technology and the Free University of Amsterdam. We expect
you to prepare a PhD thesis, based on this research.
*Requirements:*
You have a master's degree in a relevant field, strong skills in
qualitative or quantitative research methods and an interest in science
and technology policy. Knowledge on climate change, climate adaptation
and water related research is considered an advantage.**

*Appointment: *The positions involve temporary appointments: initially
for 1 year, with the intention of extending the appointment with another
3 years.* *The maximum gross monthly salary coming with a full-time
appointment will amount to € 3,755, scale 10, Collective Agreement for

The Departments of Sociology and Communications and Systems wish to recruit a student for a fully-funded 3 year research studentship and registration for MPhil/PhD. The studentship is part of the University's commitment to strategic development of interdisciplinary research in convergence and the knowledge economy. The studentship will be held in the Department of Sociology and you will be able to apply for membership of appropriate research centres based in the Faculty of Social Sciences and/or the Faculty of Maths, Computing and Technology.

Job description
We invite candidates who hold a masters degree (or equivalent) to send us brief (single-page) proposals for research projects that fit into the research activities of the department and that can result in a PhD thesis (monograph or collection of articles). The proposal should outline a research problem, a draft research question, and an indication of the research strategy.

Profile
You have a master degree in Political Science, European Studies, Public Administration or a related field in the social sciences. You have a thorough knowledge of the methodology and techniques of empirical social research, as evidenced in your master thesis. You are motivated and able to work independently as well as in collaborative projects.

Employment conditions
We offer a challenging position in a stimulating environment. As a PhD candidate you will be appointed in a full-time position for a period of four years, at the end of which you must have completed your PhD thesis. The gross monthly salary for a PhD increases from 2042,- in the first year to 2612,- in the final year (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). In addition, the University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions.
